I’ve had help from Wikipedia to write this following info: Manner is a line of confectionery from the Austrian conglomerate, Josef Manner & Comp AG. The corporationwhich was founded in 1890 produces a wide assortment of confectionery products. These include wafers, long-life confectionery, chocolate-based confectionery, sweets, cocoa and a variety of seasonal products. SCHOKOBANANEEE…. aaargh (damn my new year’s resolution!!).
The company logo is a picture of St Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna, which makes them very much the property of Viennese (who love them, mostly). This dates back to the 1890s, when Josef Manner opened his first shop right next to the Cathedral. I’ll bet that it’s in fact this very shop in the photo, although I wouldn’t bet ALL my money on it. There is an agreement between the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Vienna and the Manner Company whereby the latter is allowed the use of the logo in return for paying the wages of one stonemason doing repair work on the Cathedral. So, if you eat sweets, you’re protecting the cathedral…. well, there’s a good cause I’d be happy to support! 😀
