The trees looked like this about four years ago when I arrived in Vienna. I found it fascinating. I thought it might be bird’s nests, but concluded that there were too many of them. It’s some form of parasitic plant, which doesn’t hibernate in winter.
So, I’ve documented some of these guys around the place. Considering how they are perceived, I’m surprised how frequently they are used in logos here in Austria… Onve again we are on Vollzeile in the 1st district.
This dig seemed like he had had a lot of practice posing! Seen in a display window in Vollzeile.
Today it’s raining, so here is a picture from yesterday 🙂
My old neighbourhood. Far in the back is the mall at Wien Mitte.
We’ve had gorgeous weather today. I spent a few hours in Prater, and feel revived!
Today is the first time this year that I walked up to Kahlenberg. It’s still nice! A few birds could be heard, and the little creek is alive with meltwater.
Still a lot of snow on the sides of the road! And it was cold… -1. But it felt good. No wind, sunshine at my back… yeah. 🙂 A good way to start the day!
So today the subway was totally incapacitated, and Quando (the app for Wienerlinien) told me that there was a Rettungseinsatz AND Polizeieinsatz and whatnot on my normal route to work… so I arrived to Heiligenstadt on the Sbahn. Going to and from work is the only thing that’s happening nowadays.
I liked this perspective. At Heiligenstadt
This little kiwi is found all over town. Yesterday I was keeping my eyes open on my wandering through town, and I saw three of them. But I’ve seen others before too, so it really is everywhere.. I kind of like it. 🙂
I wonder if it’s allowed to charge companies with littering when they ignore the “no unaddressed mail please” signs. I’ve often thought about spamming them in return. Filling their inbox with thousands of messages just saying “no unaddressed mail please”…
I just submitted my first Amazon review.. Hehe.
A bit of an unusual sight late last night . Normally it would have been cleared already, but yesterday the snow clearing crews probably had too much to do elsewhere.
So, today it snowed a little. Ok, a fair bit… On the way home we passed a tram that had derailed, two cars that were stuck and this bus, which I not so elegantly managed to take a photo of. Total mayhem! Alex has been stuck on a bus for over an hour now, and it’s still snowing…
This weekend I took Friday night off to check out this event that’s been on at the Rathaus. It’s pretty nice, it’s free and you get to hang out in a seriously pretty building.
Just stunning. There were a bit too many kids for us to be tempted to go back on Saturday or Sunday, but I bet it was fun for all the kids that got to run around the big halls and stairs!
It’s fine if this lasts for another three months. I’m now into my final stage of doctoral work, which includes writing a monograph and taking the final test. So apologies for a less frequently updated blog! I took this yesterday while taking a break.
The woods on Kahlenberg are still covered in snow, unlike the rest of yhe city.
Well, this is a cafe.
Margarethen is one of my favourite districts in Vienna, there is so much cool stuff to find there, including shops, cinema (Filmkasino), workshops, various funky places that you don’t even know what are, and cafes. I really like walking the streets there.
This lamp shop is far down towards the end of Margarethenstrasse, and probably right on the border with the 4th and 1st. I really liked the extremely long word in the window. German language…
Also this caught my eye on my walk. A library needs no window it says… yet this bookshop has quite a few!
I just thought I’d share this. I like the vibrant colours 🙂
Yesterday we got some sun! I took this photo from the tram stop Quartier Belvedere on the street across from Upper Belvedere garden.
