Phew…. the dude couldn’t just have had a little bit easier last name? No. Well, in any case, this is the place where Beethoven lived in Vienna between 1804 and 1815. And wrote a lot of really famous pieces. Some info from the official website tells us that he worked on his 4th, 5th, 7th and 8th symphonies, among others, and above all on his opera “Fidelio” while living here. And quite a few (copies) of his origninal first prints and notes are on display in his old apartment.
Besides numerous documents illustrating the life and work of Beethoven, there is the famous 1804/05 portrait of Beethoven by Willibrord Joseph Mähler and many personal items owned by the composer.
I thought it was interesting to have a look around. It cost me 4 Euro, and I got to walk in the footsteps of one of the greatest composers. Although, not much of his furniture and stuff was left there.. This was the most furnished room in the aparment:
So there you have it. 🙂
This is a festival that’s on every spring, and goes for a decent amount of time. This year it started the third week of match, and goes out April. I like blues, especially because there are some insanely fantastic musicians out there. This band, 4someblues had a really great harmonica player. The venue for most of the concerts is Reigen it in Hiezing, and I can recommend checking it out. 🙂
I like going to Musikverein before Christmas. If I were in Vienna during the holidays I might want to go during as well, but so far that hasn’t happened. There are many categories of seating… the most expensive ones are of course down in front of the orchestra (though not the front seats), but you can get really cheap reservations too. Like the standing places, that only cost 5 Euro each. If you’re in good shape that’s really a bargain to see the great pieces that are put on. 🙂
I’ve been a bit of a tour guide the last couple of days, and yesterday was one of those days where you just stumble across one marvelous thing after another, making you think to yourself ‘yeah, who wouldn’t love this city??!’ These guys were in the park just outside of TU, having some beers and playing together. Right there, spontaneous concert! 🙂
