I think I’ve posted before that I’m not embarassed to pick up a heute and flip through this on my way to work. Today though, I’m testing out a free 4-week subscription to Der Standard, one of the more serious newspapers. I am quite happy. It’s got something as rare as SUBSTANCE. big word. 🙂
This is the paper that EVERYONE reads in the morning when on the way to work. Hell, I even read it from tome to time. It’s not really a quality paper, but it’s free, and is very handily located all over town. Especially at subway stations. So sometimes in the morning if I’ve got nothing else to read I’ll grab a copy. What I find most interesting is the gossip about the local politicians and celebs, partly because I’m still trying to figure out who is who in the city! Also nice to keep up to date on events that are going on and sport results.
I’m still at home, with limited internet access (to say the least) and diminishing appetite.. I think I’ve eaten almost anything that I’ve missed throughout the year during the last week! One week to go, less eating scheduled.. 😛
I used to think that NZ was pretty grand when it came to loyalty boxes… it even featured in one of Tourism New Zealand’s ads. In Austria (and thus Vienna) they’ve gone one step further, to even use it to sell newspapers. I’ve never actually witnessed anyone getting a paper and not paying for it by putting coins on that thing. I’ve seen plenty of people get newspapers from these things though. No wonder, that Vienna is one of the safest cities to live in in the world.. 🙂
